We may not yet be encouraged to travel more than 5K to use one but from this morning the Dubin Bike scheme has a new look with Now TV taking from Just Eat as the commercial partner.

The deal will run an initial three years with branding on all the bikes and at each of the stations spread across the city.

Now TV is the third commercial partner to take up the opportunity, with Coca Cola having been the initial launch partner in 2009.

There are over 100 stations across the city and in 2018 there were a total of more than 22 million journeys undertaken. The scheme is operated by Dublin City Council and advertising giant JC Decaux.

The new partnership was launched yesterday by Irish cyclist and Tour De France green jersey winner, Sam Bennett.

There is also a new NOW TV dublinbikes App which is available from today in the Apple and Google Play stores. This is aimed at enhancing user experience and making it easier than ever to use the service.

It allows for checking availability and getting up and cycling straight away. It also records your journeys so you can check back on them, feeding into the desire to track activity that has become so prevalent.

“We’re delighted to be partnering with dublinbikes for the next three years and it’s very exciting to see NOW TV branded bikes on the streets of the city,” said NOW TV Marketing Manager Sarah Jennings.

“The all-new user experience across both the new App and the website will make using the NOW TV dublinbikes scheme even easier.”

“One of my favourite things to do when visiting a new city is to get out on a bike and explore everything it has to offer so this partnership felt like an ideal fit for me,” said Bennett.

“I think as a nation we have really embraced cycling during the lockdown and NOW TV dublinbikes are the perfect way to explore the city while enjoying some fresh air and exercise.”

“The new App is simple to use and provides really useful information including checking availability at bike stations, planning your route via the map function and even unlocking a bike from your phone.”
