CHEERING ON JACK IN THE NOGGIN INN

If you are not in Paris, the next best spot to watch Jack Marley box for a medal tonight will be in the car park of the Noggin Inn in Sallynoggin, South Dublin.

A big screen has been erected and the festivities begin at 12 noon , a full nine hours before their local hero steps into the ring.

Bunting and flags, banners and more festoon the area with Jack’s family home and those of his relatives bedecked in Green White and Gold.

Monkstown Boxing Club is a highly respected part of the community and this promises to be a heck of a party.

VANCE REVEALS HIS LACK OF A SOFTER SIDE

Who would be a politician? Everything you have ever said in public is there on the record and ready to be dusted down. But really that just means you have to speak how you feel and if that comes across well, you win. If it comes across as the unreconstructed ramblings of a privileged white male with a distinct lack of empathy then so be it. You get what you might vote for America.

Simone Biles is the darling of the US Olympic team but potential Vice President JD Vance was not impressed when she withdrew from Tokyo last time around.

“It’s understandable that she was going through an incredible amount of pressure,” the Ohio senator at the time told FOX News.

“What I find so weird about this – and it reflects on the media more than it does on Simone Biles – is that we’ve tried to turn a very tragic moment, Simone Biles quitting the Olympic team, into this act of heroism.”

“And I think it reflects pretty poorly on our sort of therapeutic society that we try to praise people not for moments of strength, not for moments of heroism, but for their weakest moments.”

But I guess he and his sort might think that Biles is somehow less of a true patriot than the picture they paint of that mythical construct.

SNOOP DOGG THE ZELIG OF THE GAMES

US Viewers on NBC have been treated to the reactions of roving reporter Snoop Dogg who has been pretty much everywhere around the Games.

From wide eyed reaction to Simone Biles to checking out Rafa Nadal in the tennis, swimming with Michael Phelps and offering visualisation advice to the US Women’s Basketball team, he has been everywhere.

BMX BIKING, WOW

RTÉ’s coverage of the Games has been great but there is so much going on that their natural focus on Team ireland means they miss out on some of the wilder moments of the Games.

Eurosport does a good Bonsoir Paris wrap up on late night TV picking up on some of the best social media and with Diver Tom Daley knitting away on the couch with Paralympic legend Ellie Simmonds.

The BBC goes deep as well and last night had a breathless round up of the BMX Biking competition with reporter Mark Chapman and Team GB star Kieran Reilly.

HATS OFF TO NORTHERN IRELAND ATHLETES

Northern Ireland are having a Games to remember, for both Team ireland and Team GB. Rowing Gold for Hannah Scott and Team GB will be going back to Coleraine, while Daniel Wiffen for Team ireland and Jack McMillan for Team GB won Gold as well in the Pool on Tuesday night.

Mary Peters was the sole Gold Medallist to emerge from the North in the Modern Games but there may yet be more to come in Paris.

We can celebrate them all whichever flag it is rising above the podium.
