Sport takes centre stage for delegates to the One Young World Conference in Dublin today at a very special collaborative event hosted by Sport for Business, Experience Gaelic Games, Peace Players International, Continental Tyres, the FAI and Lenovo.

‘This Sporting Life’, is one of the key breakout sessions being hosted across the city.  Others to lend their weight to showing this group of future world leaders what Ireland is all about include Diageo, Google, Facebook and Unilever.

“Our theme is how sport can break down barriers,” said Sport for Business Founder Rob Hartnett. “We are living our own message by bringing together three great sports in hurling, soccer and basketball as the backdrop for an afternoon that we believe will live long in the memory of those who join us.”

Shane O'Donnell OYWExperience Gaelic Games will demonstrate the skills of hurling at their new headquarters in Na Fianna GAA Club in Glasnevin. They will be joined in their session by All Ireland winner and Lenovo ambassador Shane O’Donnell.

The same venue will host a special presentation by Peace Players on how they have helped to heal community division in Northern Ireland and around the world.

The third leg of the sports breakout will be a session run by the FAI and Continental Tyres on the adjacent Home Farm soccer pitch. Irish International Karen Duggan will be among the players and coaches delivering the session.

Karen Duggan OYW“One Young World has been a magnificent coming together of some really smart ideas and people and we are honoured to be playing a small part in what it hopes to achieve,” added Hartnett.

“Our simple aim is to show the collaborative power of sport; to leave the delegates enthused and inspired by what sport can do; and how there is nowhere in the world better than Ireland to host an event with sport at its heart.”

Among the counsellors that One Young World has brought together to lead discussions over the past two days are German tennis legend Boris Becker and former England soccer captain Sol Campbell.  Mark Pollock, Bob Geldof and Mary Robinson have also been among those taking part amongst delegates from 194 countries.
