Paralympics Ireland and Dublin City FM came together for the first time last night to produce a new radio show that will concentrate completely on Irish Paralympic Sport.
The Irish Paralympic Show will feature some of the best established, and up and coming, para-athletes as they continue in their quest to represent Team Ireland at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and beyond.
Two-time Irish Paralympian, James Scully, is co-hosting the show along with Derek Kinnevey of Paralympics Ireland and the show will be broadcast live from the brand-new Dublin City FM studios between 7 pm and 7:30 pm every Wednesday.
The first episode of the show concentrated on introducing the sport to listeners and included an exploration of the career of the show host, James Scully.
A key aim will be to help listeners learn more about what Paralympic sport is and how it works.
It will introduce and explain areas like classification, coaching, eligible impairments and sports and will focus on eligible Paralympic sports available in Ireland.
The show will also consist of in-depth conversations with athletes and their support teams.
The Irish Paralympic Show will also be available to download as a podcast from all of the usual streaming services.
“We are delighted to partner with Dublin City FM to produce the Irish Paralympic Show,” said Paralympics Ireland CEO Miriam Malone.
“This show will help to shine a light on everything that makes Paralympic sport so special.”
“Working with Dublin City FM will ensure a professional product that will portray Irish Paralympic Sport and athletes in a suitably high-performance manner. It can’t be understated how important it is that persons with a disability are profiled regularly and respectfully throughout Irish media and this show is another significant step in the right direction.”
“As a community radio station our goal is to create programming that is inclusive, diverse, informative and entertaining for our listeners and our new Irish Paralympics Show will do just that,” added Dublin City FM CEO Brian Commins.
“The combination of James & Derek’s knowledge and experience will give us an unrivalled insight into Paralympic sport and the journey and commitment experienced and given by these elite athletes and their backroom teams.”
“We are delighted to partner with Paralympics Ireland and relish the opportunity of giving a platform to this fantastic organisation and the inspirational people involved.”
