Irish online sports service Pundit Arena has signed an official partnership with The 148th Open Championship which will take place at Royal Portrush Golf Club in 2019.

The partnership will see the media house create a variety of content in the build-up to The R&A’s flagship tournament, while also hosting a hub of Open content.

Strong demand from fans for tickets to The 148th Open at Royal Portrush has already led to the fastest-selling opening day of ticket sales in the history of the Championship.

An estimated 190,000 spectators are expected to attend The 148th Open, which is likely to be completely sold out in advance on all days for the first time.

“Partnering with The Open ahead of what will be the first sell out Open in its history is both a proud and exciting moment,” said Pundit Arena Co-Founder and Head Of Content, Richard Barrett speaking to Sport for Business last night.

“The Open sits on the Mount Rushmore of global sports events, and we’re excited to play our own small part in making The 148th edition an unforgettable one.”

“We have special exclusive content this week leading up to the 2018 Open with Graeme McDowell talking about what makes it such a special event.”

“It will really be about the next year though.”

“We have built a custom widget that enables golf fans to sign up directly to The One Club. It is The Open Championship’s private community that provides fans with tickets.”

“We will also be conducting a series of content pieces looking back on great Open moments, and stories from those involved, including a golf fan that was present in 1951 when The Open last took place in Portrush.”

Pundit Arena has worked with AIG and the GUI in recent months and will shortly be releasing a mini-documentary looking back on winning moments in Irish amateur golf.

“Being able to work closely with The Open on the promotion of The 148th Championship for 2019 provides an exciting opportunity to continue to expand the way we deliver golf coverage to our readers,” added Pundit Arena Head of Commercial Matt Steerman.

“We will be providing a mix of unique content across our channels over the next twelve months that will deliver innovative media solutions that will target not only the hardcore but also the more casual golf fan.”
