Quidditch Trinity
Sport is a many splendored thing but while the CEO of the Sports Council and the Minister of State for Sport Michael Ring were walking through Trinity College yesterday for the launch of Cricket Ireland’s World Cup sponsorship deal with Ireland.com they could have been forgiven an element of surprise at seeing a full blown game of Quidditch under way.

For those for whom the Harry Potter craze was a phase they missed out on Quidditch was a game played first in the imagination of author JK Rowling, then in the student world of Hogwarts and now on College Park in the middle of Dublin.

It was all for a good cause raising money as part of the College Raise and Give week and fair play to both Basketball Ireland and Aviva Stadium who correctly guessed the sport from an initial tweet we sent out yesterday of the pitch being set up.

They may not be coming looking for recognition and funding any time soon but anything which gets people active and moving, even if it is with broomsticks deserves to be applauded.
