The first fixture of 2024 for the Ireland Women’s National Team will see them travel to Florence to play Italy on Friday, February 23.

This international friendly will be Ireland’s seventh meeting with Italy and will come in the middle of a nine-day camp that will also include a home game against Cymru on Tuesday, February 27.

Italy, who are 14th in the FIFA Women’s World Rankings, finished second in their UEFA Nations League group, behind Spain, last year following on from competing in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

This fixture will be the first international game to be played in Viola Park since the state-of-the-art training complex, pictured above,  which is the home base for ACF Fiorentina opened in October 2023.

Now wouldn’t that be some model for a Centre of Excellence for Irish football?

The Ireland squad will assemble in Florence ahead of this fixture with Head Coach Eileen Gleeson using it as part of the preparation for the upcoming UEFA EURO 2025 Qualifiers, which kick off in April following the Draw on March 5.

Tickets for the home game in Tallaght Stadium against Cymru are now on sale.

Meanwhile, the men’s senior team is believed to be playing a friendly match against Hungary in the June international window though that is yet to be confirmed.

The first Men’s fixtures of the year will be against Belgium and Switzerland in March.
