RTÉ has given another major boost to Women’s sport by announcing on Friday that it would provide live television coverage of all the Irish Women’s Soccer team qualifiers through to 2020.
The agreement kicked off from Tallaght Stadium where Darragh Maloney was joined by Stephanie Roche and Megan Campbell for the 4-0 victory over Northern Ireland in qualifying for the 2019 World Cup.
The team came a creditable third in their group behind reigning European Champions the Netherlands and Norway and will have high hopes for going one better and making it to the finals of the European Championships in 2021.
The deadline for bids to host that tournament passed on Friday and England was the only country to lodge a formal bid. The confirmation of their hosting is expected in December and the draw for the qualification groups will take place in February of next year.
