RTÉ Sport is to stream every game live from the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand this summer, and will have extensive coverage on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Radio as well as online.
Presenters Evanne Ní Chuillin, Peter Collins, Clare MacNamara and Marie Crowe were unveiled yesterday as the core team of anchor presenters.
RTÉ has been a long-time champion of women’s sport and it’s coverage and promotion will be a key element in bringing the Women’s game to a new level.
Morning and lunchtime kick offs are not ideally suited but the hope is that there wil be real momentum behind the team and that the country will pause for each of the Irish games.
Viewers will be able to cheer on the team and catch coverage on RTÉ2, RTÉ News Channel and stream all 64 games live from Australia and New Zealand on RTÉ Player along with highlights, previews, and features.
Fans will also be kept up to date with the latest news and updates with live bulletins throughout the day on RTÉ Radio 1 and RTÉ 2FM. There will be full live match commentary of all Republic of Ireland’s World Cup group games on 2FM followed by reaction and analysis that evening on Game On between 6-7pm.
RTÉ Kids will also be going green this summer and will be bringing exclusive content across TikTok and Instagram from the Girls in Green, superfans and so much more.
RTÉ Soccer Correspondent Tony O’Donoghue, Samantha Libreri and Paul O’Flynn will have all the latest developments on the action as they report from Down Under on all platforms on the electric build-up to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™.
“Irish women’s sports will reach brand new heights when Vera Pauw takes the Republic of Ireland side to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 for the very first-time next month,” said RTÉ Group Head of Sport, Declan McBennett.
“RTÉ has long been a strong supporter of women’s football, bringing World Cup and Euro qualifiers free-to-air to Irish viewers – from the early days to that historic night in Glasgow – so it’s especially appropriate that we will be there again to follow the Republic of Ireland as they break new ground. We are both proud and delighted to bring all the action from Australia and New Zealand this summer.”
RTÉ Sport’s commentary team for the World Cup will see George Hamilton, Des Curran, Stephanie Roche, Adrian Eames and Clare Shine on the mic, and the panel of studio experts will include Karen Duggan, Jennifer Beattie, Richie Sadlier, Méabh De Búrca and Rachel Corsie, with more names to be announced.
