RTE has announced that it will carry over seven hours of live coverage from the European Athletics Championships taking place in Helsinki from June 28th to July 1st.  The final live session on the Sunday will precede coverage of the Euro 2012 Final.  Later today, Friday May 10th, the station will unveil it’s GAA Championship coverage for the season ahead.
RTE Sport recently renewed its contract to provide live coverage of the premium Wednesday games from the Champions’ League.  TV3 and Setanta retained other rights for the next three years.
The value of sport to the channel is indicated by package prices of advertising in the Euro 2012 Championships which range from just over €100,000 for a single 30 second spot in each of the 27 games, up to a speculative €40,000 cost for 30 seconds in the final should Ireland make it all the way.
These prices compare to a rack rate of €25,000 for a place in the Late Late Toy Show or €10,000 for a spot in the Eurovision Song Contest.
