Sari Soccerfest 2013A total of 56 teams will compete in this weekend’s SARI Soccerfest in the Phoenix Park. The event is run by Sport against Racism Ireland and supported again this year by Tesco Mobile.

It has grown over the years into the largest intercultural soccer tournament in Europe and is well supported within Ireland’s many different ethnic communities.

Sport is of course an international bonding agent. Soccer being played in every country in the world with little equipment needed to get a game going, makes it an ideal medium through which to tackle areas of racism and show how people of every creed and colour can get along through the ability to play.

Admission is free and the soccer will be supplemented by a wide range of cultural and entertainment performances.

“Tesco Mobile Ireland is thrilled to be once more working with SARI for the Soccerfest.” said Marketing Manager Karen Halpin. “This is the biggest intercultural soccer tournament in Europe and great credit should go to all the organisers and the participants. It’s been a disappointing week for Irish soccer’s World Cup hopes so what better way to get over that than for football fans across the country and their families to come up to the Phoenix Park and see the super soccer skills on show!”

“We are very grateful to Tesco Mobile Ireland for their support of SARI through the Soccerfest,” added Sari Director Brian Kerr. “Sport is an important means of communicating messages of inclusion and integration and this weekend I look forward to seeing lots of people enjoying the beautiful game.”

The FAI recently announced that Heatons Sportsworld was coming on board as headline sponsor of it’s Community Football programme which also uses the sport to great effect in tackling issues of social deprivation, disability and discrimination.

Next week on Sport for Business we will run a short series for members looking at how sport is used to good social and community effect around the world.
