International property firm Savills and Leopardstown Racecourse have signed a new three-year deal which means the continuation of their sponsorship of the Grade 1 Savills Steeplechase at the Leopardstown Christmas Festival.
The Christmas Festival’s feature three-mile chase which takes place on December 28 has been won by many great champions of the past including Denman, Beef Or Salmon and Tidal Bay.
The most recent renewal of The Savills Chase contained 13 individual Grade 1 winners who had won a total of 21 Grade 1 races between them. It provided a stirring spectacle for National Hunt fans as A Plus Tard swooped late to deny 2018 winner Kemboy a second victory in the race. He went on to finish second in the Cheltenham Gold Cup and finish the season as one of the top horses in training.
This vintage renewal also saw subsequent Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Minella Indo, Irish Gold Cup winner Kemboy, impressive Grade 1 winners Allaho and Fakir D’oudairies, and Aintree Grand National runner-up Balko Des Flos all take part as well making it arguably the best race of the entire season.
“Irish horse racing continues to grow from strength to strength, and the recent dominance of Irish trained horses and jockeys in the feature races at Cheltenham and Aintree reaffirms Ireland’s position as a global leader in the sport,” said Mark Reynolds, Managing Director of Savills Ireland, pictured above to the left of Grand National Winner Rachael Blackmore and Leopardstown CEO Tim Husbands.
“Savills is delighted to play a part in this success through our sponsorship of the Grade 1 Savills Steeplechase at the Leopardstown Christmas Festival and we look forward to many more memorable races to come.”
“We are delighted to extend our valued partnership with Savills,” added Husbands.
“The Savills Steeplechase is a race that has most recently provided some terrific winners and it is wonderful to have such a strong international brand supporting it. We are very grateful to all of our sponsors for their continued commitment to the industry.”
