The Sport Ireland National Arena’s temporary housing of Ukrainian refugees has come to an end with sporting action back on track almost straight away.

The arrangement had been requested by the Government to ease a temporary strain on facilities and the facility was used to good positive effect.

We have not been able to ascertain where the families have now moved to but we can only hope that the facilities are right for them as winter begins to take hold.

The track will be busy over the winter months with Athletics Ireland announcing a new collaboration with the Campus which will see enhanced access for high-performance, club training, and coaching and development purposes each weekday from 6-10 pm at a significantly reduced fee.

This initiative came into effect this week and will run until 31st March 2023.

Athletes that are members of Athletics Ireland can book a ninety-minute session via a new app that has been developed to handle bookings, at a cost of only €4. The costs are being underwritten by Athletics Ireland and the County Boards of Dublin, Meath, Kildare, and Wicklow.

Clubs will be able to book the entire facility for periods at a cost of €330.

It is a good way to get the facility in use when other training facilities might be at the mercy of the weather and also increase the footfall to the Campus.
