Sport will be very much to the fore when the Late Late Show returns to Irish TV on Friday night with a celebration of our Olympians and Paralympians a central focus of the live show.

There will be medals and smiles and great to see equal prominence for both games and both sets of athletes.

Host Patrick Kielty will no doubt be well briefed on his use of language. We remember Ellen Keane taking Ryan Tubridy to task, gently of course, about calling her an Olympian, when of course she is a now five time Paralympian.

We do not know yet who it will be that will be appearing but with PTSB as a backer of the show and the team this will be one where all the stars are shining.

There will also be a home town visit for Kielty who played in the Amgen irish Open pro-am this week and took time out for a stroll on the fairways with Rory MsIlroy to talk golf, charity and plenty more besides.

The series returns after the main Nine O’Clock news on RTÉ One on Friday night.
