Belfast Giants 2013The Belfast Giants Ice Hockey team have renewed the title sponsorship of Stena Line for a third successive year.

Northern Ireland’s leading ferry company, which has supported the Giants since 2008 with title sponsorship for the past two years, will ferry the Giants players and fans to away games in the UK throughout the season as well as bringing in travelling teams visiting Belfast.

The Elite League features teams from as far north in Britain as Dundee with Coventry and Cardiff being the furthest south. Belfast have consistently been one of the top teams and have built a very strong franchise based at the Odyssey Arena.

Average home crowds of 4,000 make it one of the sporting ‘hot tickets’ in the city throughout the season which runs from September through to March. Each of the ten teams in the Elite League play each other six times making up to a 54 game season with stretches of home and away games to mitigate against the otherwise high costs of constant travel.

The Giants opened a new bar at the Odyssey Arena this summer, with McCools introducing dynamic pricing of drinks to enable promotions and maximised revenue.

The team has a strong roster of sponsors including Subway, Diageo, Kukri, Premier Inns, Tayto and Lucozade Sport.

“We’ve supported the team since 2008 with title sponsorship since 2011 and it’s been great to see the Giants develop as an entertaining but formidable ice hockey side,” said Diane Poole OBE, Head of PR and Sponsorship with Stena Line. “They have brought continued success to Belfast and we are delighted to be in partnership with them.”

“Stena Line’s patronage heralded one of the most successful periods the team has ever had so we’re delighted to be renewing our connection, added Todd Kelman, General Manager of the team.

“We have our sights set firmly on another league win this year and the players are determined to bring another Championship back to the proud city of Belfast. We’ll also be continuing a lot of our outreach work and educational programmes with communities in Northern Ireland so we are prepared for a very busy year.”

Stena Line has 12 sailings a day from Belfast and Cairnryan to Liverpool and Stranraer, and four a day from Dublin, one in the summer from Dun Laoghaire and one a day from Rosslare.
