SuperValu has gone strong on clubs and communities in its major new initiative around sponsorship of the 2015 All Ireland Football Championship.
Yesterday it brought together Dublin and Tyrone GAA Football stars Alan Brogan and Seán Cavanagh with their childhood heroes; footballing legends Mick Galvin and Mattie McGleenan to reveal details of a new in-store ‘Kit for Kids’ initiative.
The token based rewards scheme will run throughout May, June and to the 5th of July in 130 SuperValu stores around the country, and lead to the awarding of juvenile O’Neills kits worth €430,000 to over 400 clubs around the county.
From this morning clubs will be promoting shopping at the local SuperValu store where every €40 spent will earn a token and every 2,000 vouchers will earn a kit pack consisting of training balls, ball sacks, 24 water bottles with 4 carriers (6 bottles per set), training bibs, backpacks and other gear.
Yes that’s €80,000 of a spend but in reality 100 club members transferring their weekly shop to SuperValu will deliver a real result for the club.
“I’m delighted to support SuperValu’s Kit for Kids initiative as I know myself just how valuable gear like that is to any GAA club,” said Alan Brogan pictured above with his childhood hero Mick Galvin and his son Jamie Brogan.
“The kids in my own club St Oliver Plunketts, including my son Jamie, would be so excited to win such great gear. Whether you’re a member of a GAA club or not this is a really positive way to support your local club and its young members.”
“As a long-time supporter of the GAA, SuperValu is proud to launch this new initiative which brings our sponsorship of the GAA Football All-Ireland Championship to a local, grassroots level and allows us to give back to the community that supports us,” added Martin Kelleher, Managing Director of SuperValu.
“GAA clubs are the backbone of so many Irish communities and we’re delighted to be able to support over 400 clubs by providing them with new kit for the GAA heroes of the future.”
Throughout the Championship GAA fans will also have the chance to win additional prizes including All-Ireland Football Championship tickets, SuperValu hampers and vouchers, and the top prize of a special training session for their local club with a GAA hero. To enter, fans can either tweet a photo or a comment about their GAA hero using the hashtag #MyGAAHero. Alternatively fans can enter through SuperValu’s Facebook page.
Fellow sponsors AIB also have a strong focus on clubs in their promotional plans and branding around the Championship while Eircom is focused on social media and online sharing.
