The GAA Weekend threw up some classic matches including close ties involving Monaghan and Cavan in Ulster and Galway edging out Mayo in Connacht, as well as Wexford defeating Kilkenny in the Leinster Hurling Championship.
There were pitch invasions a plenty and a real buzz to the Championship boding well for the summer ahead.
Perhaps the biggest celebrations though were in the rare triumphs at Croke Park on Saturday when Carlow won the Nicky Rackard Cup and Warwickshire the Lory Meagher in hurling.
Neither would ever have dared to dream of victory in headquarters and while the crowds were small the intensity of their happiness was a joy to behold.
It’s not always about the biggest days and Saturday was all about giving developing counties the fire in their bellies to step up to the next level.
