It’s always good to challenge yourself and that’s what the Off The Ball team have been doing over the first few weeks of their challenge with Swim Ireland to ‘Swim for a Mile’ in 2020.

Coach Pete Conway, Chairman of Swim Ireland, is working with the team on a week-to-week basis in the Trinity College Sports Centre.

They also have the help of a guest coach, Bethany Carson, former Irish international and now Swim Ireland assistant coach at the National Centre, who has also taken sessions with Team OTB over the weeks in the lead up to the challenge.

“Team OTB are all progressing at different rates, and individually we’ve all made progress in certain areas and faced challenges in others,” said Managing Director Ger Gilroy.

“Weeks two to five were particularly difficult as our habits and incorrect techniques were broken down and we began to build up miles on the clock using the proper technique for each stroke.”

“Hopefully for the remainder of our training, we’ll start to hit the mile – so that we’ll be well fit to complete it once the big day arrives.”

The challenge is part of this year’s Swim for a Mile which will take place in April.

Off the Ball is raising awareness and funds for Temple Street Children’s University Hospital.

They are halfway through the challenge now and we will have an update early next week on how they are getting on…
