Race numbers will be given out at the Race Expo taking place over the previous two days at the RDS. This gathering of over 60 companies looking to sell services, running gear and inspiration to the 15,000 competitors taking part in the race has grown into a major part of the weekend over recent years.
Frank Greally, the editor of Irish Runner will host a forum for discussion of matters that may have been exercising the runners over recent months as they prepared to test themselves on the Bank Holiday Monday.
Among this year’s competitors will be Special Olympics Ireland CEO Matt English who is running with his son Daniel.
Matt undertook at the beginning of the year to do two personal challenges in raising money for Special Olympics Ireland. He completed the Hell and Back 10K adventure race in June and this is the second. There is a special donation page on the Special Olympics site for anyone looking to support the cause.
The Marathon is one of the biggest events of the year for Athletics Ireland but another that is gaining real traction is the Remembrance Run to take place at the Phoenix Park on November 10th.
The idea behind the 5K race, jog or walk is to take part in memory of someone who had a major impact in your life but who is no longer with us. One friend who lost his wife earlier this year has dedicated himself to running and has gathered a team of over 200 to join him in what will be an emotional celebration of her memory.
