Normally the cold snap is of concern for fixture planning and fan travel but yesterday morning at 6 AM it took out the home of Garvey’s Warriors in the National Basketball league, and plenty more.

Heavy snow in Tralee through Sunday night resulted in the collapse of the roof on the Tralee Sports Complex, which is now closed indefinitely while the damage is assessed.

Fortunately the collapse happened at a time when the hall, pools and courts were empty and nobody was hurt.

It had recently been renovated in advance of its 50th anniversary and it will now depend on insurance and the potential assistance of local and perhaps national government to get it back up and running.

Other Munster Clubs including neptune in Cork have already reached out to the club who won the National League and Cup double in 2022 and currently lie 3rd in the men’s Super league after a defeat to leaders Killester in Tralee on Saturday night.

SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE

We can only be grateful that this happened when the hall was empty, and hopeful that the insurance cover in place will enable a fast repair.

WHAT’S UP NEXT?

An assessment of the damage and temporary location for the team in training and for matches.
