PARALYMPICS Wheelchair Rugby 162420Ireland will host a division of the European Wheelchair Rugby Championships in Dublin next January.

This is a massive and deserved compliment for the work of Irish Wheelchair Sport who operate as part of the Irish Wheelchair Association.

Wheelchair Rugby has sprung to prominence in recent years following the powerful documentary ‘Murderball’, regularly voted the greatest sports movie of all time, and its starring role at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

The tournament will involve eight international sides including Ireland and seven from an invited list including Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Israel, the Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Spain and Ukraine.

It will take place at Dublin City University between January 27th and February 1st and it is hoped that a large crowd of sports fans, especially from within Rugby will attend in vocal support of the home team.

Join us next week when we will chat with IWA Sport Director Nicky Hammill about how Ireland won the right to host this prestigious event and what is planned to make it one to remember.
