The Dublin Racing Festival at Leopardstown is the newest addition to the Irish festival calendar and is a weekend that will celebrate Dublin’s richness and diversity across culture, comedy, music, racing and food.

It is the drawing together of what was three individual racing days into one weekend and wrapping it with a programme that goes well beyond the sport itself.

The opening day will run into big screen coverage at the track from Paris of Ireland’s opening match in the NatWest 6 Nations Championship and the South Dublin track is targetting a two-day attendance of somewhere between 20 and 25,000.

One immediate benefit has been the comeback of leading Dublin law firm William Fry to the sponsorship ranks with the staging of the €75,000 William Fry Handicap Hurdle on the Sunday.

“We’re delighted to be associated with this exciting new departure for Leopardstown Race Course, following on from our previous sponsorship of the King George V Race day in association with the British Irish Chamber of Commerce, which took place in in 2015,” said John Boyle of William Fry speaking to Sport for Business yesterday.

“We have extensive industry knowledge of the horse racing industry in Ireland and have had an active involvement at various levels over the years ranging from advising bloodstock industry clients to sponsoring races at Leopardstown, Fairyhouse and the Curragh.”

“Our Sports Law Group represents numerous clients operating either directly or indirectly within the wider sports industry, and this is a good opportunity for us to revive our presence at such an important venue for sport in Dublin.”

“Our clients in the sports sector include governing bodies, sports clubs, corporates, stud farms, management companies and professional athletes.”

Pat Keogh, Leopardstown’s CEO spoke about the ambition for the Dublin Racing Festival as part of the Sport for Business Sporting Year Ahead Breakfast in Dublin last week and we will be joining him and fellow Sport for Business members William Fry in celebrating what is a very positive development for sport and for sports tourism on the weekend of February 3rd and 4th.
