Wimbledon will be back on screens from next Monday and the work they do in terms of digital media is always worth keeping an eye on.

This year’s theme around which they are creating content is the History of the Championships with this year marking 50 years of the Championships being Open and 150 years of the All England Club where they are played.

The 2018 launch film uses animation to show the evolution of Wimbledon through a single continuous tennis rally, beginning in 1877 with Spencer Gore and ending with Serena Williams.

As each new era begins, the illustrative style evolves with it, capturing historic details such as radically changing fashions, the means used to keep the courts in prime condition, TV broadcasts, and even the switch to yellow balls.

It is an impressive piece of work.
