The side went out of the main event to England at the Quarter Final stage but defeated Spain and France in the Plate to secure yet more silverware in what has been an incredible season for Women’s Rugby.
It was also a day of success for Raheny United who crowned their season in the Bus Eireann Women’s Premier League with a 3-0 victory over Wexford Youths at Morton Stadium to secure a one point win in the race for the title over long time rivals Peamount United.
Management of the main sponsor may have had their minds on a national strike affecting services yesterday but the league has been a great success this year with attendances up and coverage on and offline better than ever before.
Raheny United are sponsored by eFlow who will be speaking at the Business of Women’s Sport Conference at UCD Smurfit Business School on June 20th about their approach to the sponsorship of sport and the importance of Women’s Sport within that.
They will also be joined by Irish International Soccer Manager Sue Ronan and a host of other speakers as we look together at ways of business and sport working closer together to manage the surge of interest in women’s sport. Find out more by clicking on the image below.
The interest in Women’s Soccer can be gauged by the extensive promotion of the English Women’s Premier League during the FA Cup Final between Wigan Athletic and Manchester City on Saturday and by the BBC’s coverage of the European Championships taking place next month.
There were also celebrations in Cork as the Ladies Footballers of that county defeated Mayo in the final of the Tesco Homegrown National League Division One, and in Sailing as Annalise Murphy continued her great form with victory in a major international tournament on Lake Garda in Italy.
