Ireland’s U17 Soccer team lost their opening match at the European Championships yesterday, going down 1-0 to France. They will now have to win on Thursday against Switzerland and on Sunday against Norway. to progress in the tournament. This was a rare defeat for the team who had been unbeaten in qualifying for the finals.

England came from behind to beat Norway at the Women’s World Cup in Canada last night, setting up a quarter final appearance against host nation Canada on Saturday night.
The quality of the goal scored to take the lead from Lucy Bronze was exceptional.
