RTE Television has revealed that 3.5 million people watched at least 15 minutes coverage during the Olympic Games.  The two highlights both came from the Excel Arena with 1.1 million watching Katie Taylor on Thursday and 1.2 million tuning in to John Joe Nevin on Saturday night.
The BBC has revealed that the same marker of at least 15 minutes of coverage was watched by 59.1 million people across Britain.  That represents 87% of the viewing audience and is the largest reach for any event in the past ten years.
The BBC’s digital numbers are even stronger with a total of 106 million video requests through its online platform.  This compared to 38 million during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
The Top 10 events on the BBC’s terrestrial TV coverage were:
1. Opening Ceremony, 26.9 million
2. Closing Ceremony, 26.3 million
3. Usain Bolt 100m final, 20 million
4. Mo Farah 10,000m final, 17.1 million
5. Jessica Ennis Heptathlon 800m, 16.3 million
6. Tom Daley Diving, 15.9 million
7. Greg Rutherford Long  Jump, 15.6 million
8. Usain Bolt 200m final, 15.4 million
9. Mo Farah 5,000m final, 12.9 million
10. Sally Pearson 100m hurdles, 12.1 million
