For those who want to work in the commercial world of Irish sport roles can sometimes seem a million miles away. The new Sport Ireland though is offering not one but two opportunities to work at the heart of sport in its widest context as Marketing and Communications Manager and as National Governing Bodies Manager.

The role of Marketing and Communications Manager is to replace Paul Farrell who is moving to New Zealand to take up a great opportunity with Sport NZ down under. It provides the potential to manage the whole communications and media process around how our sporting stars perform on a global stage and where better to start than in an Olympic and Paralympic year.
The successful candidate will take over responsibility for how Sport Ireland is seen across mainstream, traditional and digital channels, maintaining and building out channels of communication that will tell the story of how sport in Ireland performs from Katie Taylor’s triumphs in the ring to the potential management of crises around doping or governance.
It will be an ‘always on’ role and a perfect fit for somebody who lives and breathes sport and can express themselves clearly and concisely. Panic will not be allowed as deadlines come rushing in but the rewards of working with the best and brightest of Irish sporting talent, as well as those who help to get them to their full potential would be a richly rewarding one.
The second role advertised this morning is to take on the management of the National Governing Bodies of Sport and how they interact with Sport Ireland on a daily basis.
It will require management skills in administering the core grants scheme on an annual basis and will also have specific responsibility for managing the Women in Sport grants.
Budget management, relationship building and strategic thinking will be key elements of the successful candidate and once again we hope that Sport for Business will be a key sounding board for those who will take on the roles either internally or externally.
The two positions have been advertised this morning on the Sport Ireland website and you can see the job specs and application details here. Warning note that the closing date for applying for this role is Friday, February 19th.
