Cross Country Racing is all about rain and mud and both were in evidence at Abbottstown yesterday with the staging of the Irish Life sponsored National Championships.

Big fields of runner and large crowds of supporters descended on the Sport Ireland National Sports Campus where Athletics Ireland purpose built Cross Country course put up a real test.

In total there were 1,500 competitors spread across the ten races at senior and juvenile level with an equal split in races and competitors between male and female.

Sport for Business Member Dundrum South Dublin Athletics Club came third in the Senior Men’s race behind Raheny Shamrock and Kilkenny City Harriers.

They also came runner-up behind Leevale in the Women’s Senior Race.

Irish Life Health took over the partnership with Athletics Ireland upon their buying GloHealth who signed their initial deal in support of the sport back in 2014.

The sponsorship includes sponsorship of Athletics Ireland’s National Juvenile and Senior Championships, Irish Schools Athletic Championships and Athletics Ireland’s Fit4Life programme.

Irish Life Health made their first appearance this time last year at the same National Cross Country Championships.

In 2018 Sport for Business will host 20 events linking sport and business in ways that make a difference to how we all do such a great job, as well as producing our Daily News Digest covering the commercial world of Irish sport.
