Womens Mini MarathonIt took 45 minutes for the full 40,000 runners, joggers and walkers to cross the start line of Monday’s Flora Women’s Mini Marathon, 11 minutes longer than it took the winner Barbara Cleary to complete the race.

Nobody was complaining though as the 31st edition of the race was declared an enormous success with over €12 million raised for no less than 700 charities.

65% of those who entered classified themselves as walkers and made their way around the course at a leisurely pace but that still left almost 14,000 who had trained and will likely continue to run as part of a fitness campaign that will create its own personal legacy for them.

The race is the world’s largest single sports gathering for women and the highpoint of the sporting year for many competitors.

Flora has been involved as headline sponsor of the race since 2004 and is committed to continued support through to 2015. The Herald, Nissan Ireland and Elvery’s have partnership arrangements with the event which is sponsored by Flora
