Lisa Browne and Edel McCarthy, Electric Ireland
Lisa Browne and Edel McCarthy are the strong team behind some of Ireland’s most influential sponsorships.
Browne as Head of Marketing and McCarthy as Group Sponsorship and Activation Manager at Electric Ireland are responsible for deciding on which assets to pursue and how to make them most effective for the brand.
In February 2018 they won the European Sponsorship of the Year Award for the work they do with Darkness into Light.
In sport, their focus since the last Olympic Games has been on youth with another successful year as sponsor of the Electric Ireland All Ireland Minor Championships bringing up year two of a deal that was extended by five last year.
This year they added to the GAA portfolio taking on Sponsorship of the iconic Sigerson and Fitzgibbon Cups in Colleges GAA
Electric Ireland have covered all the bases from a sporting perspective with sponsorship of the All Ireland Minor Championships in Hurling and Football, the Home Internationals for the Irish U20 Rugby team as part of the Nat West Six Nations and as main partners of the UEFA Euro U19 Women’s Championships held in Northern Ireland over the summer.
They have spread the net wider as well with title sponsorship of Team Ireland at each of the last two Olympic Games in London and Rio.
The advertising and content that Electric Ireland uses in support of their sponsorship programme is always memorable, ranging from the clingfilm dinner of the Minor footballers to the electric blue branding and championing of athletes at the last two Olympic Games. Their ‘Champo’ Haircut activation around this year’s All Ireland Minor Finals was a winner as has been the recognition of the younger players through the Minor Star awards.
Both Browne and McCarthy are graduates of University College Cork.
50 Women of Influence in Irish Sport 2018 is brought to you by Sport for Business in partnership with our friends at Liberty Insurance.
Over the coming weeks, we will identify more leaders on and off the field of play. They will include those who are role models in terms of their abilities and what they have achieved. They will come from teams and individual sports, from sponsorship partners, from the media, from the administrative corridors of power and from places where influence may be subtle but no less powerful.
We want your voice in who the remainder should be. Who do you come across in your working life within sport, or in your position as an observer, that you feel deserves recognition.
Contact us today Quoting Women in Sport 2018 Nomination to let us know who you think should be joining us.
This year we will be inviting each of our nominated 50 to join us at our Annual Women in Sport Conference, hosted this year in the studios of RTÉ on Wednesday morning, December 5th.
We will also be publishing this year’s Women of Influence list, together with other interviews and content relating to the cause of promoting Women in Sport in a commemorative booklet.
