Margaux Mansanarez may not be a name that is familiar yet in GAA circles but she was the player of the tournament as her Belgian team was part of a force that took last weekend’s European GAA Championships in Maastricht by storm.
In all 30 team gathered from across the continent. The Italian team that won the Junior title contained not a single Irish player and the video below gives a glimpse of the foundations that are being built in establishing the sport in areas way beyond the parishes of Portumna and Portlaw.
Mansanarez will lead her team into the first national club championship quarter final to be hosted in Maastricht on Saturday, November 1st when Belgium will entertain rivals from Ireland in the Tesco Homegrown sponsored tournament.
There are now over 200 GAA clubs established across Europe and the GAA together with the Department of Foreign Affairs are to make a sum of around €130,000 available to part fund development projects and tournaments taking place through the 2015 calendar year.
