Hula Hoops National Cup AnnouncementBasketball Ireland has signed Hula Hoops to the the sponsors of the biggest annual event in Irish basketball, the Hula Hoops National Cups.

It’s an imaginative naming deal which associates the popular snack with the sport’s well established ‘hoops’ identity and comes at a strong time for the sport here.

Over 125 clubs from 16 counties will take part in this season’s elite competitions in the Men’s and Women’s game while a new National Intermediate Cup will give local clubs a chance to play on Irish basketball’s biggest stage.

The deal is for three years starting with the 2015/16 season that culminates in the National Cup Finals at the National Basketball Arena in January on a night when both main finals will again be televised live on TG4.

There has been no confirmation yet of the plans for activating the deal on the brand side but that may include sampling and even some on-pack promotion which has worked so well for sports including the GAA with Kellogg’s, swimming and GAA and Rugby through the current promotion of Cadbury’s Boost bars in selected retailers.

Hula Hoops is one of the brands in the KP snacks range that is managed in Ireland by Largo Foods.  Largo is the company behind Tayto who have strong associations with sport in areas as diverse as Meath GAA, Fairyhouse Racecourse and Modern Pentathlon.

In June 2015 Basketball Ireland signed Subway as sponsor of it’s national schools competition while it has also extended an equipment deal with Molten and counts Macron as a commercial partner on kits.

“The National Cups have been a platform for great Irish basketball players and great drama for over 30 years but we feel that Hula Hoops coming on board marks a new chapter for knock-out basketball in Ireland.”

“Hula Hoops are delighted to sponsor these fantastic competitions,” added Niamh O’Dea, Senior Brand Manager for Hula Hoops.

“Basketball is one of the fastest growing and most exciting sports in Ireland and Hula Hoops are the country’s favourite take home snack, which make this team a winning combination.”

“The Hula Hoops brand is all about our 3D hoop shape and crack crunch texture, which makes it perfect for playing with and we can’t think of a more enjoyable way to keep fit, than shooting hoops.”
