Dublin Airport will be the place to be today as the Special Olympics Ireland team flies out to Los Angeles for the World Games and the Paralympics swimming team returns from Glasgow with medals for Darragh McDonald and Ellen Keane.
The Special Olympics group includes 88 athletes competing in 13 sports and will be part of an event in which over 7,000 athletes will take part.
The team has been feted across the country including at a special reception in the US Ambassadors Residence (above).  The Opening Ceremony takes place in LA on Saturday and will feature appearances from Stevie Wonder, Avril Lavigne and First Lady Michelle Obama.
The team has received great support from Eircom and Aer Lingus in particular among its group of sponsors and you can follow their progress across the week of competition via  a special app and the event website.
Once the Special Olympics team has left the Paralympic swimmers will make their return from Glasgow where there were two medals, fourteen finals appearances and fourteen lifetime bests.
The Paralympics Swim team was sponsored by Allianz.
