The GAA Club Championship season is in full swing around the country and club fundraisers to pay for the cost of adult teams are similarly in the spotlight. Cuala in South Dublin play in the quarter final of the Dublin Senior Hurling Championship next Wednesday and they have taken a novel approach to raising funds that has more in common with dating app Tinder than it does with the traditional table quiz.
The Senior team have opened up a crowdfunding page with Sport for Business member PledgeSports looking to raise €10,000 towards the costs of floodlit training, physiotherapy, coaching, transport and equipment.
Pledges range from €10 to be a supporter through a range of options that include date nights with three of the players. Two of those, at a cost of €202 and €203 respectively, with different restaurant options to justify the different packages rather than just the eyes of the player ‘for auction’ have already gone and one remains.
The team are certainly putting themselves behind the campaign with photographs such as the one above appearing across social media and in the Irish Independent.
The campaign has 30 days to run, hopefully the run in the Championship will last as long if not going all the way with with no fewer than seven players involved in the past year with the Dublin Senior squad.
Quite what their opponents next week Craobh Chiarain will make of their fundraising efforts remains to be seen but will no doubt give rise to a few racy comments as the teams line out at Parnell Park.
