Irish agribusiness leader Glanbia has stepped up its engagement with sports nutrition through the purchase of ThinkThin, a US based player in this sector for €202 million.

In global coverage of the deal this morning Glanbia is described as the ‘Ireland based dairy and sports nutrition group’ reflecting the growing importance of sport, wellbeing and the science of nutrition within the company.

“ThinkThin represents an excellent strategic addition to our portfolio of market leading performance nutrition brands,” said Glanbia CEO Siobhan Talbot.

The Glanbia performance nutrition division includes leading brands Optimum Nutrition, BSN and Isopure as well as a number of regional brands.

Glanbia is also the global brand behind Avonmore who produce the Protein Milk that is a partner brand of the Gaelic Players Association.

Players feature on promotion of the brand here in Ireland and ten per cent of sales of the brand go towards the GPA player development programme, assisting in areas of education, career and personal development, health and wellbeing.

Avonmore sponsors the All Ireland Hurling Champions Kilkenny and it’s slimline brand was the main commercial partner of the Great Pink Run in the Phoenix Park last August.
