Recent visits from the Korean National team and the US Synchronised Swimming team have not gone unnoticed and the UK Government may be even more uncomfortable in July when Team GB’s water polo team will take part in a major pre Olympic tournament at the west Dublin Centre, part of the National Sports Campus.
“The attraction of the Olympics is proving a major boost to the aquatic centre and the local community,” said National Aquatic Centre Director of Operations, David Conway. “Teams stay in local hotels and use local facilities, giving a continual strong benefit all round.”
Dublin is reported to have beaten competition from Sheffield and at least one other UK location to host the US synchronised swimming team.
The London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games had made grants of £25,000 available to teams hosting training camps in Britain but competition from Ireland and France has dented hopes that this would help to create a greater geographical spread across the host nation.
