Pundit Arena Takin Over FranceIt started on Friday night when the team from Pundit Arena filmed Mick Konstantin and his trusty Ukulele on the streets of Bordeaux singing his Euro 2016 song ‘Taking Over France’.

The thought entered their heads that this could be the ‘put em under pressure’ for a new generation of fans and with the amplification of Facebook and You Tube they could just be right.

Defeat to Belgium hardly dented the songs popularity and it has now been viewed over six million times on Pundit Arena channels alone, maybe as may as twice times that number according to co-founder Ross O’Dwyer.

O’Dwyer and Richard Barrett’s focus on Ireland’s defeat to Belgium was distracted as the views rose rapidly and by the final whistle they had laid a plan to record the song as a charity single.  With studio secured yesterday morning and an intro to Special Olympics Ireland made through Sport for Business on Sunday night the plan was rolling.

The song made it’s debut appearance on 2FM yesterday and as of 7am this morning was sitting at number 22 in the irish Singles download chart, ahead of Hozier, Adele, Twenty One Pilots and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Who knows how far it will go.  A win over Italy could send it soaring but as an example of how it is possible to get anything done with the right enthusiasm and a healthy dose of well deserved luck it doesn’t get much better than this.

Maybe the lads should be invited into the dressing room tomorrow night.

“We might get hammered but we’ll take the reckon’ chance….”
