Vodafone Dublin City Triathlon 2016 Lch -6Vodafone Ireland has appointed World Championship gold medallist and Olympic Silver medallist Sonia O’Sullivan as ambassador and champion to the 2016 Vodafone Dublin City Triathlon which takes place on August 28th in the heart of the capital.

The company recently became main team partners to Irish Rugby and Anne O’Leary, Vodafone CEO spoke to Sport for Business about the importance of that deal.

It is hoped that the sponsorship of the Dublin City Triathlon will remain in place beyond 2016 though we understand the company’s long term partnership with Triathlon Ireland is due to come to a close at the end of 2016.

Coming from an elite running background, Sonia has recently turned her hand to triathlon and will be sharing her top training tips on www.DublinCityTriathlon.com as part of the deal.

Vodafone is encouraging employees to take part in the event and raise money for the ISPCC Childline, the Vodafone Ireland Foundation charity partner.

O’Sullivan will give a motivational training talk to staff taking part in the event as part of an overall programme of nutrition, physio and gym work being supported by the company.

“Dublin City Triathlon is one of the marquee events in the triathlon calendar and one of the friendliest for those looking to dip their toe into the world of triathlon,” said Vodafone CEO Anne O’Leary.

“We hope that Sonia’s involvement will inspire people from all sporting backgrounds to take up a new challenge. Vodafone employees are using the Triathlon as a great opportunity to raise funds for ISPCC Childline.”

“I’m delighted to be involved with this year’s Dublin City Triathlon and hope that my experiences and insights as a professional athlete, and more recently as someone looking at new fitness challenges, can help people of all fitness levels prepare for August 28th,” added O’Sullivan.

Based around the Phoenix Park, over 1,000 participants will take to the start line on Sunday August 28th beginning with a fast swim in the River Liffey before transitioning into Phoenix Park for a smooth and fast bike and run course. Appealing to novices and experiences racers alike, participants can select from an Olympic distance race (1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km run) and a Sprint distance race (750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run). All finishers will receive a generous goodie bag including a hoodie and shammy swim towel plus a commemorative medal.
