Earlier this month Jeff Stelling and Chris ‘Kammy’ Kamara, two of the most recognisable faces in soccer punditry, travelled the length and breadth of Ireland in a bid to understand how grassroots GAA clubs fuel the county championships.
Their journey was documented as part of a mini-series to be released exclusively across AIB’s social channels.
Their immersion in the sport, the clubs, the communities and county teams also served as a reconnaissance project because AIB has challenged the duo to return for the third Sunday in September to commentate on the All-Ireland Football Final, live from Croke Park.
In the first sneak preview for ‘Jeff and Kammy’s Road to Croker’ it’s clear the pair have a lot to learn – including that it’s GAA and not GWA and how to hand pass.
Along the way they will be getting tips from Micheál O Muircheartaigh who will help them as they start off with commentary on an U15 match in Dingle.
The eight-part series will be shown in weekly instalments at 5pm on Mondays from next week, July 31st through Facebook and You Tube and with other content on Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram.
There are some who think it is too lighthearted and poor Oisin Langan and the Newstalk crew were bemoaning on Twitter that these two get to commentate on more games than them this year since they lost Broadcast rights in the latest media deal.
If it brings the magic of the Championship to an audience otherwise just locked into the world of the Premier League then what can be wrong with that and this pair are bound to create some moments that will transcend the normal run of coverage we get to see.
After all they were the inspiration for perhaps one of the greatest gift grubs of all time from Mario Rosenstock.
Well done to AIB and their creative teams. This is going to be fun…
