There was a veritable rush of recognition for players of Gaelic Games yesterday with TG4, Bord Gais Energy and Electric Ireland all revealing the players to be nominated or selected as the best of their position in Ladies Football, U21 Hurling and Minor Football.

All-Ireland champions Limerick provide eight players on the 2017 Bord Gáis Energy U-21 Hurling Team of the Year. The team was revealed on the Bord Gáis Energy GAA Facebook page at 10 pm last night as the players were presented with their awards at a special ceremony at Croke Park.

“The Bord Gáis Energy Team of the Year awards are an integral part of the U-21 hurling calendar. They allow us, as sponsor, to recognise the sacrifices these players make throughout the season to excel for their respective counties.”

“The awards also allow us celebrate the Championship with the players’ families and friends who also give a lot to allow the players perform on the pitch.”

All Ireland Champions Dublin have twelve nominations for the TG4 Ladies Football All-Stars which will be announced at a special Gala Banquet in the Citywest Hotel on November 25th.

The inaugural Electric Ireland Minor Awards will be presented this coming Saturday at Croke Park. There will also be a Special Merit Award for Kerry Manager Jack O’Connor who led the county to Minor Wins in 2014 and 2015 after lifting three Sam Maguire Cups with the Senior team and now a key part of the team developing those younger players through U21.

“To be able to award Jack O’Connor as the first recipient of the Electric Ireland GAA Minor Star Special Merit Award is a huge honour,” said Jim Dollard, Executive Director of Electric Ireland.

“Jack is an iconic figure in GAA and a true legend of Kerry. His attitude to the development of young people is not just an example in sport but also in business. His success both at Minor and Senior level speaks for itself and we could not have chosen a better winner of the first Special Merit award.”

Bord Gais Energy, Electric Ireland, The GAA, TG4 and the Ladies Gaelic Football Association are among the more than 220 organisations that play an active part of the Sport for Business community.
