Sport for Business, in partnership with Liberty Insurance, is publishing our third annual list of the 50 Most Influential Women in Irish Sport.

This is not about Women’s sport, it is about the influence that women are wielding across all sport.  We will identify leaders on and off the field of play.  They will include those who are role models in terms of their abilities on and off the field of play.  They will come from teams and individual sports, from sponsorship partners, from the media, from the administrative corridors of power and from places where influence may be subtle but no less powerful.


Miriam Malone

Miriam Malone was appointed as the CEO of Paralympics Ireland during 2017 and is setting out on a massive year for disability sport.

Ireland will host its first major Para-Sports event with the European Para-Swimming Championships coming to the Sport Ireland National Sports Campus in 2018 and Malone is doubling up as Chair of the Local Organising Committee.

Having worked in the leisure industry in Australia and the US her return to Ireland in 2001 gave her an opportunity to be in at an early stage of the Local Sports Partnership network where she was a key player in the first partnership to be established in Kilkenny.

She went on to become the grassroots manager at the FAI and then to be the Business Partnerships Manager building collaboration across the football spectrum like never before.

The move to Paralympics and a CEO role was timely and with a new eight-year deal already agreed with Toyota, and other strong partnerships in place with Allianz and Flogas, these are exciting times for the organisation, the athletes it serves, the NGB’s it works with and Malone herself.
