They face two home games in World Cup Qualifying having got off to as good a start as any team in Irish history with seven points from three away games including an away draw at European Champions The Netherlands.
That game was played in front of a sold-out stadium of 10,000 fans in Nijmegen and it will be a measure of Irish fans actual rather than expressed support for Women’s sport as to whether we can do the same on April 6th and April 10th at Tallaght Stadium.
It needs 5,500 fans to turn up to make the stadium as much a positive force for the team as the Aviva Stadium is in the Men’s game.
The FAI are doing everything they can to get the message out and to do just that.
“We are putting a significant financial investment into promoting the games and there will be no excuse for not knowing that the games are on and are as important as they are,” said the FAI’s Rob Garrigan speaking to Sport for Business.
“As soon as the fixtures were published John Delaney and Ruud Doktor came to us and said ‘let’s do this.’ The support internally over the past number of weeks has been massive and we are reaching out to every part of the football family.”
“There is TV and radio advertising, partnerships with Spin, Newstalk and Radio Nova, online promotion across a wide range of sites including RTÉ and print advertising in the Independent and Herald.”
“We have messages going out to our Aviva Soccer Sisters participants as well as those at the Easter Camps underway and those who have taken part in the Spar Primary 5’s.”
“All our sponsors are really getting into the campaign as well with Three and Aviva putting real weight behind it and promotion at all our Continental tyres League games.”
“This is as big a campaign as we would put behind an effort to fill the Aviva. We know there is an appetite to support the Women’s team and we trust that the public will follow through.”
“Season ticket holders get in for free as do U18’s and the adult tickets are €5. All people need to do is get there.”
Sport for Business and Aviva have joined up to offer five pairs of tickets to enjoy hospitality before the game and seats in the stadium for the key game against the Netherlands at Tallaght Stadium on April 10th.
