Boxing has delivered again for Ireland on the world stage with Regan Buckley and Michael Nevin guaranteeing our first two bronze medals at the European Games in Minsk.
Both qualified for their respective Semi-Finals at Light Flyweight and Middleweight.
“I’m feeling good, I’m happy with my performance and it’s on to the next one now,” said Bray native Nevin after his 4-1 win over Turkish opponent Serhat Guler.
“It was a good fight, he was a strong opponent and I feel good. I have a bronze medal at least now and hopefully, I’ll try and change the colour.”
Ireland won four of its six medals from the first European Games in Azerbaijan in the boxing ring.
Michael O’Reilly and Katie Taylor both came home with Gold while Brendan Irvine won Silver and Sean McComb took home Bronze.
Our other two medals both came in Badminton.
Today’s action centres on those same two sports with Kelli Harrington in action for the first time. Jenny Egan will also be on the water in the Women’s K1 Canoeing heats.
