
Mark English will be hoping to follow up his win at the Diamond league meet in Birmingham last Sunday and run fast enough to secure a place at next month’s World Championships in Doha.
European Indoor Bronze Medallist Ciara Mageean will race in the 800 metres, sponsored by the KBC Dublin Marathon.
She will face home grown oppoesition in the form of Síofra Clerigh-Buttner, European U23 Bronze medallist Nadia Power and Jenna Westaway one of a number of US athletes travelling to compete.
The action will commence at 6:45 PM with the qualifying heats for the men’s 100 and run through to the iconic Morton mile itself at 9 PM under full stadium lights. John Travers will attempt to become the first Irishman in 15 years to win the race.
He faces stiff opposition including from US Steeplechase Champion Andy Bayer, racing at the track for the first time.
Demek Kemp, Ameer Webb, Jeff Demps and Sean McLean hold out the prospects of the fastest ever 100 metres witnessed on Irish soil, while Sarah Healy faces strong opposition from Lindon Hall (AUS), Elinor Purrier (USA), Martha Freitas (POR) in the 1,500 metres.
Another highlight will be the first running of the mixed 4 x 400 relay as both the Dutch and Irish teams seek the World Qualifying time that will send them to Doha for the World championships.
