It is a big week ahead for the FAI with the Women’s national Team getting their Euro 21 Qualification group underway at home to Montenegro in Tallaght on Tuesday night, and the Men’s National team looking to take a major step towards ensuring qualification for Euro 2020 at home to Group top seeds Switzerland at the Aviva Stadium on Thursday.
These will be the first competitive games since the summer AGM which saw a raft of changes introduced as part of the road back towards good governance.
Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport has called on politicians and Sport Ireland to turn down any invitations to attend though has said that he will be in attendance for the Switzerland game.
The business of the association has to move ahead however and today at Abbottstown a new sponsor will be unveiled. Sport for Business understands that it will be a major brand with an existing positiion within World football and we will bring you the news here later today.
Tomorrow night in Tallaght will also be the first public outing for the new Boots partnership with the Women’s side of the game.
Government funding remains suspended but support from UEFA means that the work of the FAI continues and this is a big week to put it back on the back pages as opposed to the front ones for a spell at least.
