The latest in our series of Virtual Round Table meetings for Sport for Business Members looked at different aspects of how sport can come back into our lives while social distancing is maintained.
We had individuals from a wide variety of sporting organisations, from agencies, sponsors, media and others, all of whom were willing to make a contribution and learn from their peers.
Every date in the Irish Government’s Roadmap is caveated with the phrase “Where Social Distancing can be maintained.” We looked at the meaning of that in a sporting context and focused on one area in relation to contact timing that could give us a way through.
There was a discussion around the care of duty that we have on those we bring back to sport, both on players and spectators; on the world of venue management and the multiple areas that will need to be covered off; and how we can move from the general to the specific in terms of guidelines.
We did not find all the answers but we did identify the questions that we need to ask in order to tick them off one by one.
The final piece looked at the things we have learned in lockdown that will help us come back better, stronger and smarter when the time is right.
