Greyhound Racing Ireland has confirmed a new partnership deal with the betting media company SIS which will see it support 11 major races across eight stadia throughout 2021.
The races include the Cork Oaks at Curraheen Park, the Limerick Oaks, the Race of Champions at the Kindom Greyhound Stadium and the Juvenile Derby at Shelbourne Park in Dublin.
Other races will be supported in Mullingar, Waterford and Kilkenny.
There will also be a series of ‘Curtain Raiser and Getting Out’ events at Youghal.
SIS broadcasts racing and data from across Ireland into betting shops and online providers around the world. With racing going behind closed doors since June of 2020, after an initial complete shutdown, the revenue from the SIS deal has become of huge significance.
Earlier this year they extended the partnership for a further five years, giving an important sense of certainty for the sport in challenging times.
“This is a very positive announcement for the Irish greyhound industry,” said Irish Greyhound Racing CEO Gerard Dollard.
“This investment in prize money will be spread across 11 events nationwide and at a time when we continue to race behind closed doors.  This news is a welcome boost particularly in current circumstances.”
“We have enjoyed a very close working relationship with GRI in the past and we look forward to building upon our partnership through this latest sponsorship announcement,” added Paul Witten, Commercial Director at SIS.
“The agreement will enable us to continue to support Irish greyhound racing and is further proof of our commitment to the sport. GRI’s racetracks play host to the best in Irish greyhound action, and we are pleased to be able to help showcase this premium racing offering to our customers.”
The first event will be held in Cork with the SIS Cork Oaks and will take place before empty stands with stringent COVID protocols in place.
