The agreement was reached shortly after last year’s successful defence of the All Ireland title and once again encompasses the senior, intermediate, under-21 and minor county teams.
“This sponsorship is an ideal fit for a good nutrition company like Glanbia and particularly Ireland’s No. 1 consumer brand Avonmore,” said Brian Phelan, Glanbia Executive Director.
“We have had a truly fantastic and successful relationship with Kilkenny, who have won an incredible nine senior All-Ireland titles in the past 14 years, making them the greatest team of all time”.
“The County Board has shown itself to be very progressive with concerts coming to Nowlan Park that are a boost to the whole region and crossover support within sport like the Raceday at Gowran Park which we are also happy to help with.”
“This is truly a partnership, not just a sponsorship and we place great value on the close relationship we enjoy at all levels with the Board, management and team.”
“With the costs now involved in running county teams it would be impossible for Kilkenny to prepare teams without the continued support and generous sponsorship of Glanbia,” said Kilkenny County Board Chairman, Ned Quinn. “We have an excellent working relationship with them and I am delighted to have them on board again for a new three year term.”
Glanbia opened a new €21 million facility in Ballyragget, Co Kilkenny last year. This now employs 320 people and a €500 million investment is underway across the county boundary in Waterford.
It is the latest in a long line of sponsorship announcements from the agribusiness sector with Irish sport and is particularly important given the strong indigenous connection to the communities such deals are helping to support.
