Ellen Keane came home this week to a heroes welcome in Clontarf and one that was richly deserved.
Allianz Ireland who have backed Keane since she came to the fore in London 2012, still a teenager despite one Games already under her belt at that point.
They were also on hand to celebrate her outstanding performance in Tokyo and the winning of her 1st gold medal in the women’s SB8 100m breaststroke final.
She was Ireland’s youngest ever athlete at the age of 13 when she swam in the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.
At the London 2012 Paralympic Games, she made an impressive three finals.
She got onto the podium in Rio, taking home bronze in the 100m breaststroke, and is one of Ireland’s most recognisable and respected Paralympians.
Featuring in Allianz advertising has been a part of that, as well as the sight of her parents, bedecked in their shamrock suits at Championships around the world.
Last year, she appeared in the first episode of the Allianz Courage Chronicle series. In the video, she is seen coming to terms with the pressure to perform which results from being thrust into the spotlight at such a young age and emerging as one of Ireland’s most recognisable athletes and role model to anyone struggling with self-confidence.
Allianz Ireland has been a proud partner of Paralympics Ireland since 2010 and has been a champion of Paralympic sport in Ireland throughout.
