Friday’s announcement of a 5,000 maximum capacity for sporting events presented a particular challenge to Leopardstown who had sold out all four days of the popular Christmas meeting with a capacity of 6,000.
A weekend of crunching the numbers, handling a small number of cancellations and working with commercial partners has paid off with the news this morning that all those who have bought a ticket as part of the public sale will be able to attend on their chosen day.
That is a great result in terms of customer service and shows once more the resilience and intelligence that sporting bodies and venues have been bringing to the unprecedented challenges of Covid.
“We have examined all our ticket allocations since the announcement on Friday and have had a number of cancellations from customers who will be fully refunded,” said a statement from the track.
“We have also been working over the weekend with our commercial partners and stakeholders, and with their generous co-operation have regained enough capacity to allow us to facilitate all those who purchased on public sale their tickets for the Leopardstown Christmas festival.”
These partners will have included Savills and Paddy Power, the Racing Post and Matheson all of whom are principal sponsors on each of the four days.
“As a result, we are delighted that everyone who currently has a ticket for the Leopardstown Christmas Festival will be able to attend according to the details of their ticket.”
“Unfortunately, there will be no additional tickets available to purchase for any day and admission without a ticket on the day of racing cannot be accommodated. We look forward to welcoming many of our customers back to the Leopardstown Christmas Festival for the first time in two years.”
Cancellation requests for hospitality, suite bookings and Christmas Cracker packages which are requested before midnight on 20th December 2021 will be refunded in full.
Cancellations made after the 20th December with a Food and Beverage element will be refunded at 50% due to costs associated with these ticket types. All refunds must be requested before 5 pm on Thursday 23rd of December.
Horse racing Ireland have invested well in knowing their audience and making the most of the data which we leave behind.
This has now paid off with a solution better than could have been expected when the number stuck at 5,000 on Friday.
Munster rugby have had to cancel all public sale tickets for their game against Leinster on St Stephen’s Day and are making contact with season Ticket Holders and ten year ticket holders, not all of whom will be able to attend.
